On the way back from Chris’s, the battery light started coming on at >4500 rpm. Then it started coming on <2000rpm after 15 mins driving. Car was treated to a new battery before going to the garage as the car had died while driving home at night. Picked up car this evening after new Bosch recon alternator fitted and everything was fine, even sat in traffic jam for 30mins with all electrics on with no problems. Went to do some shopping, came back and battery light came on and has stayed on. Revving car won’t make it go out and restarting it won’t make it go out. Any ideas as it’s a brand new battery and recon alternator from Bosch. I’ve checked all the connections I can see from alternator to starter and around the battery but can’t see anything loose or broken. It’s a 90amp one they have fitted.
COuld be the PCD in the dashboard, especially if it’s coming on at over a certain rev-point on the tacho.
Alternatively it might be a crap earth – you have replaced all of the earths, haven’t you? Be a little careful as if you have a furked earth then it can goose the new alternator.
Battery light is on all the time. I’ve checked all the connections but a garage fitted the new alternator and everything was fine for an hours driving. They are looking at it this afternoon but have been told to check the blue energizer wire from the alternator to the battery incase it’s broken. When I checked under the bonnet last night, I thought the alternator was rather hot in comparison to the charger and the rocker cover but can’t remember if the old one was like that as it sits between those two other car parts.
Alternator and battery are ok and so is the blue charge wire. I’ve just left it with them as they think it may be the wire going to the instrument binnacle. Anyone want to buy a cheap Rallye[?]
Just phoned the garage and the reception says they have ordered a new condensor. I assume this is for part of the alternator or charging system?
Also known as a capacitor, its a little metal can with a wire coming out of the end,
I think it is mounted on the back of the alternator??
Unless they mean the supression condensor, 056 903 291? It was the old one that went back on.
Thats the one
Oh, and the reconditioned alternator from Bosch was faulty so a new one is on so fingers crossed.
