Looking at the VWVortex site recently I came across a build thread where someone had converted a Corrado to Syncro/Rallye/VR6 components to get AWD.
The work seemed to revolve around replacing the boot floor, rear x-member and closing panels and swapping in the tank and drivetrain from an AWD golf.
I have a 16v Corrado and a rusty old Golf Syncro so naturally I am interested. Welding isn’t a problem as I have a chap for that.
First question is really has anyone on this forum carried out a Corrado conversion?
Secondly, if the 2 cars are so similar (Golf front/Passat rear) could suspension components be purchased and fitted now for later use as part of the conversion? I would like to do the AWD conversion in 6 months or more but find myself needing to buy new suspension for the Corrado now. Can I kill 2 birds with one stone?
No-one????
Personally I dont know if the 2wd Corrado rear suspension would still fit when you convert to 4wd,
however there is a difference of something like 2 to 3 inches (Syncro shorter) between the rear shocks on the 2 & 4wd Golf 2s
After checking in ETKA for compatibility,
it appears that Corrado has the same part number (& so is the same part) for the rear shocks at the 2wd Golf 2
So from this I would presume that you will find that the Corrado shocks will be too long to fit your Corrado Syncro conversion.
btw, the Corrado rear springs are also listed for the 2wd Golf 2
Here you have som inspiration
