i’ve read about this being achieved by welding on slotted channel pieces to accommodate eccentric bolts, which allow for the adjustment of camber and/or toe. i’m just wondering is it totally necessary to use these:
or can i get away with simply widening the existing hole to make room for eccentric bolts?
or can i get away with simply slotting the existing holes to allow me to move the stock bolts up vertically?
thanks, olly
After you fit the plates you have to slot the existing holes out anyway, the problem is that the original metal is not thick enough to take the stresses when slotted and will soon start distorting, the channel plates prevent this from happening, & also allow the bolt to rotate around the offset head rather than the offset shank.
Have a look here http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1671
i think i’m going to have a crack at this, by welding some reinforcement plates to the mounts and slotting the holes. if i double the metal thickness it should be strong enough and a can use the same bolts. i’ll post some pics when i get round to doing this, i’m in the middle of welding up a new downpipe at the moment.
Am I right in thinking that in the image above, just the inner bush has been made adjustable?
Alexisblades, did you do this in the end?
Unfortunately not Trev. I did spot some eccentric poly bushes somewhere for a Ford Escort, which I was thinking would make a good alternative though.

Hello mate. Ah, that’s interesting.
Might phone up the dealer today to see if I can get the VW / Audi bolts.
vw did make some eccentric bushes for the rallye etc but they were non-adjustable (at least i couldnt get them to adjust). I guess they set up several sets of trailing arms
