this might seem like a dumb question but I’m hoping someone’s already done this so knows the answer.
The next thing to sort on my syncro is the fuel delivery system, pressure pump, new fuel lines, injection pipework etc. I’m pretty sure I’ve got all the bits I need to do this but have spotted a potential issue.
I’ve got myself nice shiny braided-steel fuel-lines to replace the standard ones since they’ve had 23yrs at 5psi and I suspect suddenly putting 50psi through them might end badly, plus different ends etc.
The issue is that the lines currently run through the chassis rails and the braided lines are quite a bit chunkier than the original ones as you might expect.
The places where the current pipes enter and exit the chassis rails look pretty limited and I wonder if there’s actually enough space to feed the new pipework via the same route – i.e. just widening the entrance/exit holes might not be much use if it’s too tight along the way, and it might be wise to have a little bit of free-space/margin, esp as I’m prone to denting undercarriages on kerbs.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it likely to be a problem? If so how did you solve it?
thanks
its something ill be looking at soon so ill post my findings. Just waiting for the repainted shell to be returned
ok cool thanks I’ve got a bunch of work on at the moment which means I’m not allowed to get injured by working on the car plus it’s bloody freezing out there atm so not likely to be doing anything for a bit. I wondered whether one could run the lines elsewhere down the outside of the chassis (i.e. outside the rails) but really would prefer to have them protected as much as poss.
cheers
Could you not use copper pipe of a suitable diameter?
if it stands brake line pressure which is tons per square inch it will stand a couple of bar fuel pressure easily,
you could even use brakeline connection fittings to keep it fueltight.
no idea… the plan wasn’t really to design a whole new system, just implement the nice braided lines I’d already bought.
id bought some larger diameter fuel lines and not got as far as trying them out for fitment
hmm I think the ones I got are roughly the same internal diameter but are rubber with braided steel casing so obviously quite a bit bigger outside diameter.
