I’ve been having issues with the Pierburg on my Jetta so I’ve ordered a Weber carb for it. However a mate has suggested fitting an injection system to it instead, better economy/performance has anyone any experience of this as I’m not sure how difficult it would be.
Currently I’m considerring using a K-jet one, I’ve got a few pieces spare already from my rocco
How does the following sound for a start: metering head/airbox inlet/throttle body, tank mounted lift pump (would I need a new petrol tank?) + a sensor somewhere. I might shortly have a spare head from a DX engine, would this fit/be better?
TIA
Chris
To fit an injection system you will need to change the head as the carb head does not have the injector mounting holes, an electric in tank lift pump and the relevant wiring will be needed, you will also need the pressure pump assembly that lives under the car and the wiring harness for it, you will need to change all the petrol pipes for high pressure ones, the list just goes on & on,
Personally I would just fit a Weber 32/34 and have done with it, you will find both the economy and performance pleasantly increased, I did this on my old carb Syncro and was suprised at the difference
btw, when the k-jet system was fitted to the GX motorcode syncro it produced worse performance and economy figures than the pooey pierberg carb (GU) version, how much of this was down to the catalyser is debatable, as the carb version doesnt have a cat!
The DX head uses a very early form of Bosche mechanical fuel injection which I am led to believe is not compatable with the later variants,
i wouldn’t bother fitting K-jet it’s historic now and still dose the ignition advance in the distubutor, if was doing it i would go and get a PB engine and use digifant 2.( make sure the hazzard light switch is in the same place on the donor car as it means the wireing will be plug and play ) there area few issues with making the lift pump fit but nothing magor and the std fuel lines can be retained. other than that it’s just bolting bit’s on and pluging things in
Cheers for the info guys, I guess I’ll forget that idea then and save my pennies for a G60 conversion
now that sounds like a fun idea
I have a dream for the car. I don’t know if/when it’ll happen but I’d love a G60 Jetta countryish []
that would be diffrent
