There are many possibilities when it comes to the engine internals. Parts from Audi S2 and RS2 can be used with a minimum of grinding to fit the oil-squirts.
For high output engines aftermarket rods is a must. And custom pistons are affordable bought on the right place. There is a supplier om eBay.com that’s wery reasonable. You just have to fill in the custom form.

Rumour has it that the earlier (to 1994/5 OBD1) ABA Code American 2.0 liter motor has forged internals suitable for boosted motors.
Well according to VWvortex, the ABA engine is happy to receive
some nice boostlevels of T3-turbo’s. 300bhp is quite standard…
Lowered compression via extra headgaskets or spacerplates are needed. But give no problems at all.
