hi chris have had a look on the etka cd for the bushes for the rear arms, it lists 2 numbers 191505383b and 191505383a (inner) does this mean i need 2 of both numbers and the 191505383a being the inner bush[?] regards darren
does anyone know where i can get a polyurethane bush kit for the rear crossmember and rear trailing arms as ive just checked the price at vw and chocked on my sandwich. regards
Powerflex do them for the VW Golf Mk2 G60 4WD. I’ve no idea what they are like fitted but Chris will confirm or correct that the inner ones for the rear trailing arms are the eccentric ones on ETKA for the Rallye. I presume it also includes the G60 syncro.

Only the Rallye uses the offset inner bushes, all the other Syncro versions use 4 of the cheaper central bore mounting bushes.
A quick site search produced this []

Gents,
I am currently putting together a shopping list of components so that I may completely rebuild the rear axle of my G60 Syncro.
Can anyone tell me for certain whether the G60 Syncro will have the offset bushes like the Rallye does, or will they be as on the standard carburettor Syncro? And what is the purpose of the offset bushes?
I was proposing to simply order an entire set of Powerflex replacement bushes for the rear. Looking at the C&R website I see the following available specifically for the Syncro and Rallye:
ABMPFR85-260: POWERFLEX AXLE BUSHES: Powerflex Rear Beam Mounts (pair): G2 Syncro / Rallye: £46.00
TABPFR85-262: POWERFLEX AXLE BUSHES: Powerflex Trailing Arm Bushes (Set of 4): G2 Syncro / Rallye: £40.01
BARPFR85-263: POWERFLEX ANTI ROLL BUSHES: Powerflex Rear Anti Roll Bar Mounts – Inner (pair):G2 Rallye:£11.00
BARPFR85-264: POWERFLEX ANTI ROLL BUSHES: Powerflex Rear Anti Roll Bar Mounts – Outer (pair):G2 Rallye:£11.00
I’ve read on here that the Powerflex bushes need drilling out 1.5mm (if I remember right) to fit the Rallye rear anti-roll bar. But can anyone suggest what rear ARB the G60 Syncro would have? Same as Rallye, or standard Syncro? Actually, I’m just looking at VAGCAT as I write this and I find the following:
(21) 357511409D
stabilizer
20MM / RALLYE GOLF; G60
I think that this must mean the G60 Syncro uses the 20mm ARB, so hopefully I’ve answered my own question, and I’ll need to drill the Powerflex ARB bushes.
Having searched around I’ve seen recommendations for using standard VW bushes, but is there any reason against going for Powerflex?
Aside from the usual replacement nuts and bolts that I shall obtain from VAG, anyone have other recommendations for components that I should replace while I am at it?
Thanks
Trev
Its not a bad idea to replace the brake bias lever at the same time.

Chris,
Many thanks indeed – would I be right in thinking you’re referring to the items in the following thread:

Thanks

Yes thats the one. [] Chris
as far i have replaced refurbed,
1. rear trailing arms, crossmember, diff supported mount have been sandblasted and hammerited £75
2. powerflex bushes have been fitted all round with no problem. they cost me £125 inc vat and shipping minus arb mounts which i will use standard rallye items.
3. fitted new wheel bearing £54
4. new nuts and bolts all other bout £30
5. new shocks front and rear i think they were £80(thanks to chris for helping out with locating these.
TO BE DONE
6. new brake pipes made up £20
7. new shoes , cyclinders and adjuster kit. £50ish
8. new springs location unknown as yet possible throught the same people as the shockers.£70
9. new inner and out cv joints and gaitors bout £90
10. rallye anti-roll bar and fixings price?
11. lube and grease bout £15
roughly after everythings bout it should cost about £600 and my labour
if your going to do this job make sure your only going to do it once, try not to cut corners and try to renew as much as the pocket allows.

A) Good question, I dont know.
Q) And what is the purpose of the offset bushes?
A) They alter (decrease) the rear camber by a fixed amount, while you have everything off the car & on the workbench a far better solution is to make yourself a fully adjustable rear set up. (see the photoguide on this)

You should be able to see which inner bushes you have once the rear trailing arms are off the car perhaps?
Gents,
Many, many thanks indeed. You’ve all been extremely helpful and I’ll take all tips on board.
I can’t easily determine which bushes my car has right now because it is a considerable distance away at a body shop, and I’m hoping to have them before I drive over to visit it.
I did suspect that the offset bushes were to do with camber setting, and I have seen your adjustable camber modification before Chris and I have been tempted to copy it. I do have a complete spare rear Syncro axle and I was considering modifying those spare trailing arms so that I can keep the originals just in case. I suspect though that the spare trailing arms I have will be unsuitable as they’re from a Syncro with the drums. Ah, I’ll do another search to try and answer that question.
Holmes, that’s a good list of stuff. I would like to renew as much as possible while I’m under there.
The car is presently being completely repainted on the top and underneath(!) and the body shop conveniently has a blasters / powder coating place directly opposite. So the plan is to go and strip all away all underside components while the shell is on their lift in their workshop, take the bits to be powder coated, go back again a week later to re-assemble, and then essentially the car will be delivered back to me with the subframes already rebuilt and powder coated so that I don’t have to kill myself messing with subframes in the freezing winter!
Okay, from VAG today I ordered the following:
– A new bush that goes in the propshaft doughnut at the engine bay side
– All of the parts to rebuild the rear brake bias valve linkage
– Various other fasteners for the rear axle
And I’ll get the Powerflex bushes ordered tomorrow as well, although I’ll see if I can get the Rallye ARB bushes from GPC or somewhere.
Oh! One thing while I think of it. The mounting that the rear differential hangs from that has a bush (1H0599273) that sits within it. Has anybody ever found the need to replace this? I want to get those components powder coated also, so I’m thinking I may have to remove and renew that bush.
Just had another proper read through your adjustable camber thread Chris and I definitely want to go ahead with this, so thanks again for sharing your ideas with us.
The other question to try to answer is whether to carry on using the existing Syncro transmission parts, or instead use the relatively lower mileage VR6 Syncro transfer unit and rear diffential that sit in the garage (I never did sell those damn things in the end!).
Many thanks
Trev

They are all the same apart from the bearing sizes which dont make any difference to the brakes
And you dont modify the trailing arms at all, all the work is done on the cross chassis mounting wishbone.

Mine have always been ok & my first Syncro had close to 300,000 kilometers on the clock, you wont like the price of it though at about 40 pounds just for the rubber bush insert [V]
Thanks again Chris.
i also left the bush in the mounting that the rear differential hangs on, i checked it over there was no wear or cracks and i dont think it has a hugely hard life anyway. as for powder coating the rear beam, me and chris discussed this briefly and as we have done we thought it best to hammerite, this is due to it being a rust prohibitor and also powder coating isnt a sure thing, you may find that the rust will creep into a small stone chip etc then itll travel under the powder coat, abit like it does from factory. its your call[]
