The plan is to fit this into a Golf Country already fitted with a TDI & a peloquin-equipped 02C trans for a true locking rear diff.
Most importantly, I needed a 17:27 transfer box to run it. Procured one from an Audi S3 equipped with an FEX 02C trans.
The Sharan rear diff has a vacuum actuator for the freewheel/sprag clutch just like the std. syncro rear diffs, so that’s a no brainer.
The VC looks to be a bit different… I’ve found one from a T4 van that will mount the same as the Sharan’s.
Mounting the diff to the syncro subframe will be much the same as mounting a Haldex rear diff with a few differences. I’d sure prefer to use a removable bracket though, to be able to switch back to the std. rear diff if so desired.
I’d like to actuate the rear locker with a cable instead of the OEM vacuum set-up… Mount an extra lever somewhere in the cab like a proper 4×4!
Here are some pics for comparison. Man, this diff is HEAVY… built like a brick sh!thouse with a cast iron case.
Anyone know the width of a Haldex rear diff? Mine measures a tad under 44cm between the axle cups. The two should be the same, meaning I won’t have to reinvent the wheel with the rear driveshafts.
