Hi all.
I’m currently converting my MK2 Syncro to a VR6…i’ve aquired a CSR code gearbox from a MK3 VR6 Syncro which i am currently rebuilding. Finding a matching rear diff was almost impossible so i have decided to use a rallye rear diff and transfer box which i now have!
Now, the rallye transfer box weighs and absolute tonne compared to the original one and doesn’t have oil feed holes, so i would like to swap the internals over to the original casing and renew the bearings at the same time.
My question is has anyone attempted this? is it a simple swap or does it involve complicated procedures to set bearing preloads, etc?
Or should i just plug the oil feed holes on the gearbox side, bolt the rallye transfer box up and be done with it?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks, Chris
The transfer box internals wont swap as the bearings, shafts etc are different diameters, the ratios are also different between the Rallye transfer box & the VR6 rear diff, the Rallye being 20/21 and the VR6 16/21 so thats a non runner as well!
You’ve mis-understood me. I don’t have a vr6 rear diff. Basically i have the VR6 syncro gearbox…and Rallye transfer box + rear diff. I’ve gone down this route to overcome the ratio issues.
I would like to put the rallye transfer box internals into the original transfer box housing so i can utilise the oil ways. But, how do i go about setting all the correct preloads and shims? As i said in my first post, if it’s too much hassle i will just weld up the oil ways and bolt the rallye transfer box to my gear box as it is.
OK, The Rallye rear diff & transfer are obviously compatable as both have a 20/21 ratio,
unfortunately the Rallye transfer box internals, Gears, Shafts, Bearings, etc are a different diameter and are not compatable with the later (oilway) casing, personally I think your best plan might be to find a transfer box with the oilways, as this is will only need bolting in.
That could also be a right pain.
I’m thinking my best option is to plug the oil ways, but not weld them leaving them available should i need them in the future.
Thanks for your help, i guess i’ll just stick to the rallye bits for now and leave them as they are.
Cheers
