Hi,
Recently I have been experiencing vibration on the body.
This only happens between 90-120, and beyond or below that it does not seem to vibrate. I feel no vibration at the steering wheel, just the body.
I searched and possible cause maybe the propshaft, but although it does vibrate, it does not bang the floor so I am confused.
I also took it to repair shop but the guy could not find out what was wrong.
So far we have tried:
– Exchanged all 4 tires and wheels with those from other fine Golf, showed change a bit but did not fix.
– Checked balance, but it was fine, therefore no change.
– Exchanged front brake rotors with 280mm, no change at all.
Can anyone help me identify what could be wrong??
Many thanks,
Have you checked your drive shaft joints & wheel bearings?
if they are all ok then it is probably the prop shaft hanger bearings, this happened on my 2nd G2 Syncro a week after I bought it, try driving up a steep hill and see if it gets worse,
mine used to run ok on the flat, but on a hill (the steep one coming out of Dover in the UK) the prop started bashing into the tunnel, it sounded like the floor was about to fall out!
Luckily I found a complete brand new propshaft in Germany, btw mine failed at less than 100,000 kilometers so it appears to be a time related issue rather than a mileage one.
Indeed the vibration occurs only when accelerating/there is a load.
Hmm, I guess the bearings are shot then.
I am looking for where I can get the replacement.

According to my VW partsman, both propshaft bearings are still available, but must come from VW Germany with an unknown delivery time,
this usually means that they are shown on the computer at Wolfsburg as sat on the shelf at a VW dealers somewhere in the world,
(not neccessarily at the same dealers or even the same country or on the same continent either)
they must first be sent back to VW Germany for onward shipment to the ordering dealer
Prices are

Hello,
In continuation to what I have asked, and been replied, I have replaced the hanger bearings with new, but the vibration is still there.
I have replaced the bearings this time, as well as the propshaft CV joint boots, and I do not think the matching of each 3 pieces of the propshaft is messed up as my mechanic had the marking of the original position.
I am so mystified as I have no idea what could be the cause…
The symptom is the same, massive bodily vibration under acceleration/load, and it seems to be much more apparent over 80km/h.
The bearings have oval installation holes and the mechanic said by changing the orientation of the bearings it seems to lighten the vibration a bit.
Can anyone give me any clue as to what I should do with this please???
Hi Shinya, As you know its very difficult to diagnose problems on a forum or via skype for that matter, all one can do is offer advice as to the most likely causes,
I would suggest that for your next move you try & produce the same vibrations either on the road or preferably on a rolling road
1) in 4WD as normal (rolling road)
2) with the front (and/or) rear propshaft sections removed from the car (rolling road or normal road)
This may help identify if the vibrations are coming from the front or rear of the car and narrow down the search area,
sorry I cant be of more help but as already said “long distance mechanicing is not an easy task!”
