Hello…
Soon i will have my vr6 syncro transfer box and rear diff for sale. They are both still currently in the car so can be seen working/functioning perfectly. Ideal upgrade for bigger power rallyes/syncros and is a direct replacement.
£400 for both the transfer box and rear diff, I dont really want to split the two items, but if between two of you, both are bought I’ll be looking in the region of £250 for the rear diff and £150 for the transfer box.

bump…
will be coming off the car very soon hopefully if anyone wants to see the bits working before they come off?
I would suggest asking 200 pounds a piece.
What’s the part number of the transfer box?
Will it bolt on a CBC 02C box?
Thanks,
Chris.
The transfer box is CSR and rear diff is CSS
Prices can be adjusted as per chris’ recommendations.
Hi, thanks for the reply – I’m a bt ignorant with the VR6 parts – will the VR6 (CSR) transfer box bolt onto a CBC 4 pot syncro gearbox?
Do you have the actual VAG part number for the transfer box?
What makes the VR6 box better than the 4 pot boxes? Cast case, oilways etc?
Thanks,
Chris.
At the risk of answering my own question a bit – the CSR transfer box is listed as having a 16/21 ratio, whilst all the rest (including the ‘normal’ 4 cylinder Passat syncro TB’s) are listed as 20/21 so I’m guessing that the 16/21 ratio in the CSR TB will be spinning the rears out of sync with the fronts – would this be a correct assumption?
Thanks in advance,
Chris.
Yes you are absolutely correct, you can only use the VR6 transfer box & rear diff as a pair, the gear ratios at 16/21 are not compatable with the 4 cylinder 20/21 ones .
Thanks Chris – so the questions remain:
1) Will the VR6 TB bolt up to a CBC 4 cylinder gearbox and:
2) Is the VR6 TB (and rear diff) any better / stronger than a ‘normal’ Passat G60 syncro unit and if so why??
Cheers,
Chris.
Yes it will bolt up, but no neither TB or rear diff are any stronger than the 4 cylinder versions, I believe the only reason it has different gearing is to reduce vibration.
The transfer box does need to be run with the corresponding rear diff, like you and chris both say.
Depends what and where you read, some people will say the vr6 syncro is stronger than rallye/g60 syncro, others wont. I understand it is stronger than what is found on lesser model syncros. I was happier running with vr6 syncro gear.
Im unsure of exact part numbers at the moment as all the bits are still on the car, when they are off i can tell you then.
I have heard that the gearbox itself is stronger & tougher than the 4 cylinder one.
The transfer box & internals are a lot stronger than the rod change 020 transfer box, buts thats about it really,
The VR6 transfer box & rear diff uses the same bearings, seals & casings as the 4 cylinder ones,
apart from the 4 cylinder Golf Rallye which has a cast iron transfer box casing in place of the cast aluminium one and also uses different size bearings.
Hopefully to come off my car 3rd – 4th May
