well i’m 4wding a Mk1 but i’ve just found out i may not need a tunnel…….. anyway. i also need a new gearbox for my Mk2. its just thats a 1.3 not not a syncro lol
The Golf 1 shell will need some stiffening to cope with the extra stresses placed on it by the bigger motor & Syncro drive train, there is a thread on fitting a mk 2 front subframe to the mk 1 shell []
As nutter4x4 says, you will need a syncro tunnel, have you fitted the 1.8T yet? if so, do you know where the 4wd gearbox output is going into the shell? and at what height?
If you bolt the engine in using mk1 mounts then the propshaft output flange on the gearbox lines up perfectly with the steering rack, so you have to weld the mk2 subframe in.
