WATER PUMP MK2 SYNCRO

HELLO
Can anyone offer me advice. am i right in think the bottom end of a 1.8 carbed engine on my syncro is the same as the bottom end on a mk2 1.8gti 8v?
my waterpump is leaking like a sieve and its got dry (previous to me owning) and i think its cause the bearing to go.
i am going to change it but would prefer to have a haynes amnual by my side but there isnt one for the syncro, so i was planning on using the golf gti manual (as the water pump is on the bottom end)
im also going to change the belts while im there.
im confident in doing it but would like a bit of reference while doing it so would i be ok working with the haynes for the gti as all the work im doing is the bottom end?

It’s exactly the same as the GTI and the 1.8 and 1.6 Driver models.

Interesting fact about the Haynes Manual, if you look at the model identification picture on the 3rd or 4th page, you will see they used a picture of a Golf Syncro! []

Makes no sense does it, I went on the Haynes web site, but there was no manual to accompany the Syncro.
I guess its mainly because its largely generic to the gti, or driver apart from the running gear

You could try getting hold of a ‘So wird’s gemacht’, by HR Etzold, on the Mk2 Golf. This covers all Mk2 Golfs but is in German!!! You can always use the free translation software on the internet.

I’ve also noticed that the line drawings are very similar to those in the Haynes manual!

Alternatively you could get hold of the manufacturer’s workshop manual, if they exist.
