moved to “for sale”
ld50Member3-legged crank puller an idea maybe?
ld50Memberhmm good shout – it’s actually back together again now but that bugged me and by now I should be able to drop it out in a few mins so may have a go. I actually know the clip you mean and drilling a hole and pushing it in would do the job.
I’d thought it twists somehow but didn’t have any joy and didn’t really want to experiment too much cos the only other ignition barrel I have is on my syncro (where all the locks match) and I didn’t want to have to rob it from there.
ld50Memberin retrospect – sounds like a bargain vs diy
ld50Memberrofl
ld50Memberwhat about this: http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2414
ld50Memberouch
ld50MemberDunno if this helps but I had a thought – I used to get a clunking on the front end of my syncro a while back too – also ended up changing the bearings and several other bits in order to trace it. It turns out it was tired c-clamps on the manifold/downpipe so the exhaust was knocking against the tunnel in corners…
under load and braking it seemed to move around quite a bit…
ld50Memberhmm no i tried that along with mild tapping, twisting etc… looks like I’m going to be left with two keys still… but at least they’ll open all the doors
ld50MemberOk this is the bit I’m on about – finger pointing at the panel whihc looks like it could be removed, but it might well be a one-way process.
Any ideas?
ld50Memberomg what happened to that poor car!
*lots* of potential though []
ld50Membergreat thanks
ld50Memberget some skinny 80 section tyres on it!
I’d be interested to know how long the drivetrain lasts tbh…it would settle a long-standing discussion once and for all.
also – fair play to tay for starting such a vigorous debate lol looks like you’ll fit in fine
ld50MemberI was considerign this but deicded it would be easier to flog my gti and get a bmw for drifting instead…. plus when I smash it up it won’t have wrecked a precious syncro!
ld50Memberwhy bother with the VC at all – weld it solid!
do keep chris’s email handy though, he should be able to get you a replacement
