opinion noted danny. and with that lets move on.
I would say lets focus any latent bitchiness into providing the best information we can to our noobs. If anyone wants to out-do anyone else let it be on that playing field.
I run an online shop and apparently a 7% return rate is “expected” in online sales so managing 5 years’ of flawless transactions is a record no matter how I look at it.
And with that let’s conclude this topic … re2 haven’t you got underbody to be sanding or something?
ld50MemberFunny you should mention it – apparently not, however this has been going on long enough and so it’s time to do something about it.
Technically Chris actually kept this away from the forums and neither kept phoning me at work nor threatened to bring the dispute to the site in the form of a flame-war, both of which TC did do, and which is what actually what triggered the suspension.
What I suggest is that Chris is reinstated with full rights, and we overlook TC’s little outburst based on the fact that like Chris he’s been a long-standing contributor and has also helped many many folks with their syncro problems. TC will be reinstated as a user but has no moderator rights and is on probation. At the first sign of flaming or cross-posting/bitchiness/baiting and this position will be reviewed. Hopefully everyone will play nice and it won’t come to that.
I would also suggest that anyone trading parts confirms with the seller what their policy is on returning items *before* buying. Keep your transactions clear and settle-up promptly.
It’s a good thing that we’ve managed 5 years+ without any major hitches, lets try and make it another 5 without any more .
ld50MemberI’ve added and annotated some of the photos about rust as previously mentioned….
ld50MemberIs that the same TT conversion which was on here the other week for £450?
ld50MemberI ran my syncro daily for several years and it was great till the gearbox went, but at the time this site didn’t exist and I had to drive to Chris’s in holland to get a replacement. Fortunately that’s not really a problem you’d have now.
Fuel-wise I found it no different than the mildly tuned mk2 gti I had previously. Tyres last *forever* on it and even with it lowered and the associated rear camber, I had none of the wear issues which are so often mentioned with syncros (15″x50x195s).
Country sounds nice but I don’t think I’d want one as a daily driver. Given all the hoo-har about “ground clearance”, most of it is taken up by the sub-frame anyway. I’d have thought a slightly-jacked up syncro would give you the same clearance with less faffing.
Alas as it turned out my syncro was full of holes and is still recovering from that one, but believe me the second it’s roadworthy again the 16v gti will be sitting there gathering dust.
ld50Membervery nice and clean that!
ld50MemberMight be worth postign the name of the place here if they do a decent job – you’re probably not the only one who will need one fixing
ld50Memberah ok if you’ve not tried that then the 12 point socket should do the trick – I’m pretty sure I had the same conversation with Les Burt a year or two ago…(except I had the sockets but never thought to try it )
the syncro did indeed run but has been stuck in surgery since to get the bodywork legal. I changed jobs along the way and haven’t had as much free time recently so it’s all having to wait while I get the basics sorted properly…
ld50MemberAs far as I was aware you just need a normal 12-point socket to undo them. Hope that helps
ld50MemberIf you email them to me at syncronauts@gmail.com I can add them tot he members cars photo section
ld50Memberyeah I’m afraid chris is the keeper of those sorts of stats…but it’s somewhere around the 200 mark in terms of members who’ve posted since jan 07 and more like 110 who’ve posted since the start of this year.
ld50Memberyep – and I’m sure this will be resolved soon…
ld50Memberyeah my syncro is begging me to fit it but brassic atm after server shenannigans..
ld50MemberRE2 is using downdrafts on his as far as I know…check his handiwork:

ld50MemberRe the fuel pump setup – have you found a device to automatically switch off the pump when the engine stops (i.e. in case of an accident). I’ve heard of a “holley safety switch” but wonderde if there was a relay somewhere we could tap into. Atm on mine the pump is on when the key is turned – so not ideal for in a collision…
