finally got to do a bit more work on the syncro…hopefulyl more tomorrow too \o/
Started getting the in-between bars welded in place. Unfortunately I used up much of my metal stock on other projects recently so will need to add more but am hoping to get this wunderbar wrapped up shortly.
Next up is a new downpipe since the current one is blowing at the manifold flange and I feel like this might be a good opportunity to practice my TIG welding 😉

nice! what model is the quattro drivetrain from? does it have the electronic torque splitting like some of the s/rs models?

so what’s going on in these pics? Are you fitting a (v6?) onto a longitudinal quattro drivetrain into an a3?

On my phone I found some browsers were ok and some wheren’t. Chrome seemed to work the best both on ipad and android phone

More progress today, got the first couple of cross beams tacked in place and so far it all still fits!
I was planning to just have one vertical beam in the middle (along with one on each side) but the bit where the chin panel bolts on juts out more than I thought it did so we’re going for a total of 4 verticals…a bit more cutting but no biggie, and might mean I can use slightly thinner sheet to bridge the gaps (or something).
The centre verticals are just clamped in place in the last pic (hence the great big bit of angle iron to keep things aligned) but they look to fit ok and will get tacked in place next.
Once actually under the car the “longwise” sections (i.e. the continuation of the verticals, in line with the car) will need to deviate from equal spacing to allow clearance for the sump, gearbox etc but there should still be plenty of bracing to ensure it’s nice and study for when I grind it over kerbs, rocks or whatever 😉

Carried on with the (w)underbar today – mostly just measuring and mocking up the first cross beam and making sure it’s all level. It needs a little adjustment but only once the cross beam is attached so it all stays lined up. It’s gradually taking shape though 🙂
This was first time out with the new chop saw and whilst it seems to have some limitations (mostly due to some disc “wobble”) the cuts are noticably better than freehanding everything with the angle grinder. It got dark before I could get much further but the fit of this cross beam looked a LOT closer than any of the previous joins.
Hopefully pics tomorrow if it’s not chucking it down…

ah bugger I was messing about with the SSL stuff yesterday after getting scary warnigns from google about “insecure pages”, will see how I managed to break it.
EDIT: Actually the pics on the first page of this post are showing up for me. Are they the ones you mean?
