lloydyParticipant
i have a question for you actually, the powerflex trailing arm bushes, they come with 4 washers made out of the same purple material. Where did you put those? no idea where they are meant to go, so ive left them out for now. Did you fit them?
(have replied to you guide pin question, its on page one )- This reply was modified 5 years, 11 months ago by lloydy.
lloydyParticipantsorry, my carriers came with the guide pins already greased and fitted. so i didnt remove them to look. These are the correct ones for the carriers (by part number 443698470) https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Guide-Sleeve-Kit-Brake-Caliper-SP9896-TRW-AUDI-VW-Seat-SAAB-443698470/1337696427
maybe you can compare the image and decide?lloydyParticipantits getting nearer!!

lloydyParticipantin fact, im picking up the correct bolts (for me) tomorrow. if you can wait, and your not spacing off your carrier you can have my four mk2 golf bolts for half what i paid for them, so a tenner plus post for 4.
lloydyParticipantcarrier bolts are available at heritage and the like. probably vw too. the thing to bear in mind is that if you space the caliper carrier off the arm a bit (as i had to to centre it on my discs) you will find they are too short. Only engage by about 3 threads. Golf mk4 ones are longer and the right thread pitch, but are about 5mm too long 😀 So you either have to cut 5mm off or fit a 5mm thick washer under the head. Other otion is just to buy some 10.9 grade bolts of the right thread pitch. Ebay has them, they are in my basket while i make up my mind what bolts to get mk4 or ebay ones….
Moral of the story, is try the carrier and disc on the arm before buying standard 20mm long ones.lloydyParticipantan option for the obsolete rallye rear disc splash guards. It is documented on a old post on the forum, but ill put it here with part numbers. Basically Golf mk4 4motion rear shields. You need to cut them away a bit until they fit. i cut the ‘bridge’ off but this can be left on with patient trimming.
parts numbers 1J0615612C 1J0615611C. very cheap from VW, expensive on ebay……Attachments:
lloydyParticipantill sort that in a sec.
Things have been moving on.. New brake master, new brake pipes run underneath. Front and mid section of prop fitted, exhaust and cat refitted. Rear beam completely built back up and ready to bolt on! Hopefully Sat or Sun for that job.Attachments:
lloydyParticipantYep that’s were I got most of the info to do this ? apart from the splash guards which ingot from another thread. Couldn’t see any mention of different caliper carrier bolts though? I’ll likely cut down some MK4 ones, as they have the ‘shoulder’ on them.
lloydyParticipantDisc brake lovely-ness.. meant to post this Sunday, but I seem to have been taken out by food poisoning.. family get togethers eh! Anyway after a 14hr sleep I seem to not need a bucket.. anyway, I digress..
Splash guards/discs and carriers working in perfect harmony ?
Only slight hiccup is I must have ordered the ‘upgraded discs’ that need a small spacer between the carrier and arm. Luckily I have lots of that type of thing. Only thing now is the mounting bolts are too short at 20mm, need to be 25mm. Might have to buy some MK4 golf ones @ 30mm and cut them down. If anyone has a part number to a bolt that is the right length to start with, im all ears!
Plus a less sexy but just as important shot of the new studs in the cat converterAttachments:
lloydyParticipantGot the brake pipes and brake bias valve fitted on the rear beam, and the Diff bracket bolted onto car. The rear arms are now ready for me to collect with all the hubs ect pressed in and splash guards fitted, should be collecting Monday…

lloydyParticipantIt’s great when stuff comes back all shiny isn’t it ?
lloydyParticipantFilled the diff with oil, and rear beam and centre mount bolted on.
Rear arms are at the machine shop getting the bearings and hubs pressed in, also having some M6 holes drilled and tapped to fix the disc splash plate, as I didn’t have them already.Attachments:
lloydyParticipantIts the actual switch that bolts to the gearbox for a rod change box. I’ll post a pic when I get home later to clarify. I have one brand new one which I’d rather keep and a known working used one. I’d just want what it’s cost me, £70
lloydyParticipantI actually don’t want to fit these now, they’re just looking too pretty?
The trailing arm bushes come with a fat and thin end, nothing to tell you what is meant to be inner or outer so ive just fitted them to be the outermost for each bush. Anyone know any different?
Picking up the 6 screws for the brake splashplate tomorrow and hopefully straight to the machine shop!
Plus a pic of the backplates cut up and paintedAttachments:
lloydyParticipantThanks, yes the brackets were welded before my ownership. Not the best welding, but it works..
