i know they were better than stock bearings fitted anyway. I plan to powdercoat the block in original blue, so i just figured that while it was apart etc. The engine really had an easy life. I was only 120 or so bhp on the rejetted pierburg apparently, so running 30bhp down on a gti re2000.

ive got a rallye exhaust manifold and did have a stubby 3″ 2-1 downpipe back to 2.5″ straight through before it was alll stolen- well i still have the downpipe. Im planning to take it to see Ian at Pipewerx later to see what he can invent. Its a tight squeeze with the rhd cars

well after years and years of searching i finally have the wing badges fitted today and they look f’ing top!

    however……
I then get told that the guy I bought these off has the early pre ’87 badges too! Now i never even knew these existed, so temptation struck and Ive spent more $ on badges!

    syncro1.jpg

This has a chrome surround and also has an etched background like the
    dash badge below

    P1010733.jpg

Im going for the pre ’87 look anyway as I have a grill badge like this but
    with a chrome surround grill

    P1010731.jpg

Here are the rest of the badges to match with a GTI Engineering badge too
(took me ages to find this and then a box load have been sold on Ebay!) The
Golf badge was also hard to find new. I plan to fit the Golf and Syncro badge
as they are suppossed to be on the right side, and as I have a later rear end
with the VW roundal in the middle, Im going to fit the GTI Engineering badge
where the Volkswagen badge would have been on the early rear end.

As you can see there is differnces with the script of the Golf G60 Syncro badge
that dont match up with the old fashioned script (2 scripts were used on the
    Mk2 Golf Syncro)

but I just dont know if the chrome surround badge will stick out from the
paintwork more than I wanyt it to. Ill find out soon, but I do rather like the
    old fashioned badges!

Heres some better wheel pics too

i was thinking more of the KR and not the ABF. Also the recognised opinion that a 16v and 8v GTIs are geared differently to match the engine characteristics, plus a syncro gearbox is more akin to diesel ratios thus beter equipped for tourque and not the revvier 16v. Having never done either into a syncro im just going on what i seen on here and elsewhere. A 2l 16v would have more tourque so thats why it may work better

you will have to make sure that the block has all the necessary bolt holes to use a 16v with a syncro. Im sure its covered somewhere and i think it has to do with bolting the transfer box onto it. Also a syncro gearbox wont favour a 16v engine characteristics without some internal fiddling

id really recommend the H&R ones and they arent that expensive considering that a/ they fit and b/ they have had rather alot of R&D put into them

well after 5-6 years of hunting I finally have a set of the G60 Syncro wing badges! Chris ha=s looked and a few other friend have tried but it all came down to Ebay in the end

    8b17_1.jpg

I bought one as thats all was available- just to get the part number or make a copy, and then 2 days later a pair are up for sale. It didnt take much thinking before the button was pressed!

Heres the gearnob I made using a scanned 20 yr old sticker i found in one of my brochures. Im not sure wether to use this or the Mk4 one shown earlier
