Alternator and battery are ok and so is the blue charge wire. I’ve just left it with them as they think it may be the wire going to the instrument binnacle. Anyone want to buy a cheap Rallye[?]
SlatefordParticipantBattery light is on all the time. I’ve checked all the connections but a garage fitted the new alternator and everything was fine for an hours driving. They are looking at it this afternoon but have been told to check the blue energizer wire from the alternator to the battery incase it’s broken. When I checked under the bonnet last night, I thought the alternator was rather hot in comparison to the charger and the rocker cover but can’t remember if the old one was like that as it sits between those two other car parts.
SlatefordParticipantThere are 3 on eBay.de just now between £250 and £300 if that’s any help?
SlatefordParticipantLink below shows a complete Rallye system but not sure how much is relevant to the Golf Syncro.
SlatefordParticipantGot one. Thanks for your help.
SlatefordParticipantIt turned out to be a broken 5th gear selector fork, 02A 311 562A. I presume the gearbox doesn’t have to come out to change this part?
SlatefordParticipantWhen I visit Chris and Pascal in October, I’m sure they will have something to say about the ride quality of the FK’s.
SlatefordParticipantChris is correct when he says crappy coilovers, FK Highsports that is. I’ll be glad to see the back of them after driving Chris’s syncro with good old fashioned springs and dampers. A few syncro owners have gone onto the very expensive KW brand or back to standard VW or aftermarket suspension setups with good results and I don’t see the ones that Chris is building up as going to be any different. Can’t wait[]
SlatefordParticipantPowerflex do them for the VW Golf Mk2 G60 4WD. I’ve no idea what they are like fitted but Chris will confirm or correct that the inner ones for the rear trailing arms are the eccentric ones on ETKA for the Rallye. I presume it also includes the G60 syncro.

SlatefordParticipantWhen I purchased the car, despite a fresh MOT, the rear springs were snapped at the top. The seller sent me a fresh set and a 4WD alignment showed the rear to be within tolerences and very similar on both sides. When I got the coilovers on, the left rear was almost unchanged but the right was now out of spec.

SlatefordParticipantThanks. Turning right is certainly not as precise as turning left, especially if you meet a corner at speed. The car was fitted with coilovers 18mths ago and was great to drive but the garage lowered it too much as the anti roll bar was hitting some of the front suspension while going over speed bumps. The garage raised the height nearer standard and said they had redone the geometry when I asked. I didn’t get a printout and they closed shortly afterwards. I don’t think they did and this is where the problems lie, or some of them. Chris and Pascal will be investigating when I finally get over to Holland later this year[]
SlatefordParticipantThink I may have at last found one[]
SlatefordParticipantSlatefordParticipantStill looking []
SlatefordParticipantThanks Chris. I had new rear calipers on last year. Yesterday I parked on a really steep hill so pulled on the handbrake quite hard. An hour later, there were 2 inches of free travel on the handbrake before it engaged. The calipers however were not stuck on as an hours drive home and the rear discs were cold and the car could be easily pushed in neutral. I left it with handbrake off and I’ve just checked this morning and it all works as it should[] Perhaps the cable got stuck inside it’s covering, if it has one?
