I was actually looking for guidance on the system rather than the car itself.

I have a 16v Corrado which is slowly being converted to a trackday car, drifting has always appealed and the Corrado base is ideal for improved engines and the AWD conversion (dead Golf sat on the drive).

Given more power, sensible stiffening, a dose of weightloss (carbon, grp, plexiglass and trim removed) do you think it might be a goer?

Thanks Chris, I suspected it was controlled by the fluid mechanics of the VC.

I was asking in relation to a discussion on another forum where someone was using a 4wd car for drifting.

I know there is a technique specific to 4wd cars and wondered whether the Syncro system would work with it, or be modified to be more suited to drifting.

Not the usual query I know. 4wd cars have some advantages and disadvantages against RWD when it comes to traction when it comes to drifting – just wondered if the Syncro setup and its power delivery was different.

Hi Chris. Standard grey front carpets and black in the boot area.

I don’t think I need them for my Corrado conversion do I?

I am breaking a Golf Syncro for my own conversion so a few bits are available:

Carpets, new discs, drums (with new bearings), front bearings, pads and shoes. Also rear diffs and boxes.

PM me if you need any of it.

I know the coilovers I saw recently for a Mk3 GTi were listed as +20mm/-80mm so perhaps there is some level of play available (especially if you mess with longer springs).

I think I have seen the same pic (bracket on the shock base moved by about 20mm down?).

Thought I would ask here before I butchered anything and ruined the shocks/broke something.

Sorry, scrub that. The rear spring has variants T and B. T=G60, B=Country.

The one you need is plain old 191 513 035 which is the ‘Increased Ground Clearance’ option

My VW dealer has confirmed the part numbers are still good, but would be on back order from VW Germany as they were never UK numbers. Price for the full kit looks to be around £700 but thats for factory parts and a proper designed 40mm lift.

The top mounts and parts like the spring cups are obviously standard Golf so could be sourced anywhere.

Rear springs were listed as Country/G60?

Anyway – here is a breakdown (translated of the correct parts)

    Front-
    Coil Spring – 191 411 105AH
    H/D Shock Absorber – 191 413 013T
    Bump Stop – 357 412 303E
    Suspension Strut Top Mount – 357 412 329
    Spring Cup – 357 412 341

    Rear-
    Coil Spring – 191 511 115P
    Shock Absorber – 191 513 035
    Bump Stop – 191 512 131A
    Spring Cup – 191 512 149A
    Dust Cover – 191 513 425

Thanks to Clive for the help to date. I will report in when the bits (assuming they do) arrive. :-)
