So the head off these 1.6GTI motors is BETTER than the PB and EV heads and works OK and won’t screw up the compression ratio on the GU motor?
no such userParticipantyes littel gain over a pb head other than max revs are a bit higher
no such userParticipantSorry, Chris, I didn’t make it clear (I was tired, it was late etc)- the question is whether the HEAD off one of these motors could be fitted to a GU block.
no such userParticipantI have acquired one of these dizzis now – looks like I have the next modification ready to go on the car!
I also have the number for a guy who says he’s got lots of Golf1 1.6GTI motors lying around. Can any of the resident experts let me know whether these work on a GU motor?
no such userParticipantIf people can scan their articles in carefully and save them as good quality jpg files then I can combine them into pdf documents, or alternatively they can just be put up as jpg files embedded into articles in a website.
Re2, tell me the brochures you have aren’t all the same, please!!
no such userParticipantI just spent some time inserting an article, some photos and also a few links and our site logo into the install I did a while ago.
This is in light of people discussing content libraries etc
If anyone wants to try this out in more depth then I’m happy to do a sort of ‘tutorial’ either on MSN Messenger, or over the phone. There are some excellent guides already out there for people to try anyway.
no such userParticipantDO IT!
I’ve tried contacting VW UK about stuff and they really don’t give a toss…. probably not until they notice something out of order anyway.
I’m happy to donate my scanned materials to the project – there’s not a lot, but a little and I can convert jpgs into pdf documents of varying resolutions, as I have the tools for my work anyway.
Unless anyone’s making money out of what we’re doing then there’s no real case to ask us to stop – there’s nothing in it for either side.
no such userParticipanti found NFU gave me a good price, higher group than gti but they give discounts for 4wd
no such userParticipantI like the idea of a library of information and publicity. Several people on here know I have the capacity to deliver this, but to be honest, I’d rather have a fantastic resource about Syncros available to all who browse – this will pull people in and hold them to the point where they will be happy to donate, when the question is asked, which it can be annually.
The benefit of the ‘free for all, with an occasional collection’ is the halo effect out into the wider community – we gain reputation and status as a genuine enthusiast’s site, with the best people in the world to ask questions to about Syncros. I know I’ll be happy in the knowledge that I’m part of a community of subject-matter experts who are happy to share knowledge with others, with no demands for cash.
To be honest, with the vehicles we own the biggest benefit to the members is availability of parts through other members – Holmes will have a pair of drum back plates off me – I have no use for them and they’re not mint, but they’ll do him. I’ve had an exhaust manifold off DannyP for not much before (and the rest, bits-wise) I’ve picked up bits for ChrisS from around the UK before and I suspect most members on here will have bought something from ChrisS at some point. Without these contacts we would be buying these parts at much higher prices, or not be able to get hold of them at all – the members of this site are what keeps these cars on the road and that is reward enough to justify putting our hands in our pockets from time to time.
[steps off soapbox]
Who’s up next?
no such userParticipantThe rear units are totally different to 2WD Golf2.
Get under your car and look at it properly – you’ll see how different it is underneath.
no such userParticipantInsurance is a toughie on the Syncro – it’s got higher insurance grouping than a GTI if I recall correctly….
no such userParticipantmore like find somewhere that’ll make it for you, there is a lhd drive tubular one avalable for about £470 from somewhere but i forget who makes it
no such userParticipanti had the lot off
no such userParticipantI cut off about 15mm from mine, using a hacksaw – it’s more accurate and less prone to mucking things up!
Make sure you clean all of the swarf off the thing before you put it in – there’s nothing to stop it getting hosed into the engine otherwise!
no such userParticipant9:1 cr is better for BOOOOST wonder how much it’d take
