Let me know what to download and when and I’ll give it a caning from here.
no such userParticipantBetter to have a whip-round of existing members. If people see value they’ll contribute. I feel you’ll just stop people advertising stuff we might want!
no such userParticipantCertainly will, although we’ve experienced some unusual behaviour of certain modifications on a Wintel Platform.
Run it up and try it – it’s all free!
no such userParticipantOK, I’ve started working something up.
Those who know me will be aware that my ‘thing’ is something called Joomla. This is an open-source (that means free) content management system called Joomla.
This is basically something to build websites in, which makes it easy to not only build the site but also extend it out and make something which is very content-rich, easy to navigate and fun to work with. It is also highly-visible to search engines, which means more profile for the site and the content.
This framework allows the whole site to be organised as a filing cabinet, with things called sections acting as the drawers and things called categories acting as hanging files within the drawers. There are also things called templates which control how the filing cabinet works and a big network of people who design things that will make the information either look cool, or do funky things.
Examples of sites I’ve done (to give you an idea of the capabilities) are as follows: http://www.applicable.com http://www.diamondhell.com http://www.futbus.com http://www.iow4x4club.co.uk and http://www.busgoons.com. I must stress that these are only just scratching the surface of what Joomla can do, but give you a starter for 10.
To get idea of what is possible when building a knowledge-base have a look at this article: http://diamondhell.com/content/view/25/30/
Notice it has videos embedded in it – this is pulled from Youtube. Also when you click on the pictures they expand, too. At the bottom of the screen is a set of icons that allow you to easily link the article to digg, del.icio.us. It is also possible to add on a comments field and also allow other users in to the article to edit (improve) it.
What we need an idea of to create a knowledge-base is what the sections and categories should be in this virtual filing cabinet. Remember – one section can have many categories. The idea with this is to sweep up all of the best (most useful) forum posts into a better formated information mine that will be useful in the future and unlike forums, won’t have such an issue with time (e.g. things slip down with time).
I have installed a copy of joomla at http://diamondhell.com/vwsyncro/ – this doesn’t cost anything and once you have registered I will activate users on there and make them super-administrators so that people can have a good poke around and get to understand what Joomla is, how it works and what we can do with it.
Time, as with most people is at a premium here, so this is a bare-bones install. You can register and as I have said, I will activate you. I have also installed a number of templates on the site which you can swap around and there is some data in there from the basic install. Hopefully in the next few days I’ll drop an article or two in there and a few add-in modules etc so you can see how something quite basic can develop into something big and rather exciting.
Do not hesitate to ask any questions about this, as it’s quite a large ‘thing’ to get hold of and understand. If you want to find out mroe go to http://www.joomla.org and have a good look around. I love this system and what it’s capable of.

ucket seats now gone to skoobadude.Dammit, I go away for a couple of days…..
Alloy cards might well work, even if they need a bit of trimming. I’ve got an offer of a set of out of date (for FIA use)4 point harnesses, too – nice wide ones []
no such userParticipantfactory 20v managment is a pain, aftermarket is easyer to fit also people want daft moneny for engine loom clocks keys and ecu.
syncro driveshafts will fit rallye gearbox knock the 90mm cv’s off and knock 100mm gti ones onno such userParticipantTry looking here: http://www.vwsyncro.co.uk/data/forums/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=645
Does anyone have a ”list of parts” for the conversion??? Probably not
I’ve been told that the 1.8T AGU engine code is the one to use?? I can’t help you, but I know there are two different blocks on the 20VT motor.
Anyone have any idea if factory 20VT management is the one to go for or aftermarket stuff like QPEC??? Aftermarket should give more power as you can map all your ignition and injection. Alternatively you should be able to get a standard ECU with the security burnt out.
Are 1.8T downpipes for syncros custom or is there a supplier?? It’s gotta be custom and I doubt there’s a supplier, but at least you don’t need tuned headers, unlike an NA motor.
Will the syncro drives fit the rallye box?? Driveshafts? GTI CVs bolt up to the gearbox output flanges (do not they, Chris?)
Will the syncro brakes be up to the job?? No, no, no.
Which clutch and pressure plate will i need?? A Rallye/Passat flywheel/clutch combination. The guys at http://www.vwrescue.co.uk/ Are running a 20VT motor on a rod-change box with around 200bhp. It had just eaten it’s diff at Castle Combe last weekend.
no such userParticipantme need the GTi diet to. right i’m off to go and rummage in mine and throw all the dead K jet bits at the bin. mk1 has just been moved and think a decision has been made to give it 2ltrs and remove everythign possible inc dashboard
no such userParticipantmust be a bush problem then, don’t know of any adjustment in there. so duff bush or incorrectly installed ecentric bush ( if it was lowerd )
no such userParticipantThe only wire I had connected after I put the Weber on my car was the carb-heater. I’ll have to have a look at the motor tomorrow night to see what colour wire I connected…
no such userParticipantno one told me that, something broken or bent then
no such userParticipantLOVE this car, if it’s the one I think it is – I saw it when I was with DannyP. It has bhp I can only dream of at the moment!
no such userParticipantno such userParticipantWe spotted another (much modified) Golf Syncro out on the track – a 20V turbo conversion, which went home early due to diff-consumption issues (no surprise there).
The car belongs to http://www.vwrescue.co.uk – who I’ve emailed – they should be along here at some point!

Nice motor!
no such userParticipantyou can check it yourself quite esaly with a spirit level.
basicly find the flattest most level pice of ground you can and put level on you bonnet to see if the car is level then find somethign to drive onto to make it level ( normaly bits of plywood )
then simply put the level on your wheels to see how upright they are. if the level indicates that both are the same the problem is going to be tracking related. if the level shows a differance just loosten the two bolts that hold the suspention strut to the wheel tap it in the appropreate direction and check again.
some people say it’s not right to do it that way but thats how i have allways initaly set the camber on my cars before taking them to be checked and none have ever never needed to be adjusted ( smugness )
